Young Can’t Teach Old

Conversation

After a quick greeting, use the following questions as a guideline to form an interesting conversation with your tutor. Feel free to diverge from these suggestions if anything interesting comes up.

  • Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? There is nothing that young people can teach older people. Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.
    • When was a time you learned something from someone older than you?
    • When was a time you learned something from someone younger than you?
    • What value is there in learning from others?

mend (v) repair, return to a whole
When he taught his grandson how to fish, their relationships mended.
get on with (expression) continue to do
Before the sun went down, they had to get on with their travels.
fit in with (expression) be convenient or doesn’t disrupt
He wasn’t sure he could fit in with all the younger kids. 
pick up on (expression) notice something most people don’t
Even though she hadn’t played it before, she picked up on the trumpet very quickly.
teach an old dog new tricks (expression) the ability to learn something new
Since he learned how to text, his grandson no longer thought that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks
