Contribution by Artists vs. Scientists

Conversation

After a quick greeting, use the following questions as a guideline to form an interesting conversation with your tutor. Feel free to diverge from these suggestions if anything interesting comes up.

  • It is generally agreed that society benefits from the work of its members. Compare the contributions of artists to society with the contributions of scientists to society. Which type of contribution do you think is valued more by your society? Give specific reasons to support your answer.
    • What benefits have artists brought to society?
    • What benefits have scientists brought to society?
    • In what ways are both contributions important?

Just so the students could see it better, the artist passed around her creation.
run by (expression) allow others to review
Before the scientist made the presentation, he wanted to run it by his mentor.
speak out (expression) express one’s feelings frankly
The artist knew she could use her art to speak out against violence.

He barely studied for his art exam since he knew he had a perfect score in the bag.
