Meeting a Celebrity


After a quick greeting, use the following questions as a guideline to form an interesting conversation with your tutor. Feel free to diverge from these suggestions if anything interesting comes up.

  • If you could meet a famous entertainer or athlete, who would that be, and why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.
    • What would excite you the most about meeting someone famous?
    • What questions would you ask this famous person?
    • What about this person makes you interested in meeting him or her?

celebrity (n) a famous person

fame (n) the condition of being known or talked about by many people
At times, the movie star was annoyed with all the fame he received.
speechless (adj) unable to speak
The little girl was speechless when she saw her hero.
popular (adj) liked, admired or enjoyed by many
The movie became so popular that she was recognized everywhere she went.
meet (v) make the acquaintance of someone for the first time
She couldn’t wait to meet the famous swimmer.
chat (v) talk in a friendly and informal way
The two of them just chatted as if they were old friends. 
bump into (expression) unexpectedly meet up with someone
She could not believe she accidentally bumped into the movie star.
ramble on (expression) to talk excessively
With so much to say, he just rambled on about his love for movies.
shout out (expression) say something loudly, often to attract someone’s attention
When she saw her favorite author walking down the road, she needed to shout out her name.
Elvis has left the building (expression) the show has come to an end
When the lights went out, people scrambled away as Elvis has left the building.
